Making Sartorial History: The Beautiful and the Batty

Monday night, while the Metropolitan Museum of Art exhibited Miuccia Prada’s fashions, other designers showcased their muses. Some ensembles worn that evening will reign forever in the kingdom of the sartorially hallowed, while others will go down in history as the biggest fashion crimes ever committed.

Among the best-dressed are Carrie Mulligan, who radiated in a metallic Prada cocktail dress, and Bianca Brandolini d’Adda who dazzled in a matching Dolce & Gabbana gown and cape.

The offenders? Marc Jacobs is at the very top of the list, obviously. Kristen Stewart, who was recently hired as the face of Balenciaga’s new fragrance campaign, sported a wacky, form-fitting dress designed by the line’s Nicolas Ghesquiere. (Her black and white lace-up shoes and unkempt hairdo did nothing for her defense either.) Anja Rubik showed too much skin and bone, while going commando. And the always impeccable Ivanka Trump had an off night in a blue velvet bondage dress by Peter Pilotto.
